Ash Wednesday Worship ~ February 13, 7pm

Ash Wednesday is the first day in the forty-day season of Lent (excluding Sundays) that marks the beginning of a season of penitence and confession.  In this season we claim once again that God alone is Lord of all; confess the brokenness in our humanity, and begin to prepare our hearts, minds, and souls for Easter.  God’s claim on us as creatures, God’s invitation to confession, and the cleansing process that occurs in the Lenten season help us to embody what the Psalmist pleads for in Psalm 51: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. (v.10).

The practice of marking worshipers with ashes has long been a part of our Ash Wednesday observance.

As we begin the season of Lent, we ask God to enlarge our vision so we can see how God desires for us to live—the One who created us and calls us to repentance freely offers the clean heart we long for. We invite you to begin your Lenten journey with us in a service of worship on Wednesday, February 13, 7:00 p.m., in the Sanctuary.
