School Dressing Days July 24-27

Even though the current school year isn’t even over yet, the Interfaith Community Council is already thinking about back to school and is in full gear getting ready for the annual School Dressing Days event.  Since 1971, area faith communities have joined together to ensure that children  in grades K-12 have clothing and school supplies for the new year.  Last year 1,240 children received new jeans, a shirt, underwear, socks, school supplies, and toiletries among other things.  Our church has been a key player in the success of this ministry through donations of money, needed items and volunteer time.  The Presbyterian congregation and entire community have been so supportive.  It is a huge undertaking and it is amazing what we can do together to help others.

The dates this year are July 24, 25 (set up days) and July 26, 27 (distribution days) and it will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Bragg Road. Movers are needed at the Falmouth Storage location on the morning of the 24th. The event is being held two weeks  earlier than usual and we hope we will have the needed support to make it run smoothly. If you’ve never been a part of School Dressing Days before, you will be surprised at how fulfilling it is and there are jobs for everyone! Thanks to all for your ongoing help with this important mission; the need is great, and the families are so very thankful.

     Ways to help:

* Volunteer- there will be sign-up sheets at church or you can sign up through Sign Up Genius www.tinyurl.com/SDD2019.  Spanish speaking  volunteers are always needed. We work throughout the year and always need more ongoing help with shopping and inventory.

* Donate money which will be used to purchase needed items.  Checks can be made out to The  Presbyterian Church with School Dressing Days   on the memo line.

* Our church will be collecting used coats (elementary age), jackets/hoodies (teens), shoes  that are new or gently used and appropriate for school age (sneakers and flats for teens), teen girls’ underwear size 6, men’s and boys’ new, athletic type socks any size, new little boys’ or girls’ jeans size 14, new or gently used backpacks for all grades (high school especially needed), 3-ring binders, and soap, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes for toiletry bags.  There is a collection bin in the Lobby of the Education Building.
