The Personnel & Volunteers Committee is currently conducting evaluations of the church’s program
staff, (the Pastor, Associate Pastor, Coordinator of Christian Education and Director of Youth
Ministries). The evaluations are an effort to obtain feedback from the congregation regarding staff
members’ strengths and to identify opportunities for staff growth and improvement. The results
will be used solely to help program staff members improve the church’s ministry.
The Committee welcomes feedback from any member of the congregation who wishes to participate
in this process. Forms are available in the church office and at fredericksburgpc.org, and
should be returned to a Committee member or the church office by May 27. The Committee appreciates
your desire to help improve the church’s ministry.

Graduates

We will recognize our 2012 high school, college, and advanced degree graduates during worship
on June 10, and in the June issue of The Lamp. Please contact the church office by May 14 with
your graduation information – where you are graduating from and plans for the fall (job, military,
college, etc.). High school graduates also provide a photo for the newsletter.

Golf Tournament

Golfers—Mark your calendars for Monday, July 30, for the Annual Church Golf Tournament. The
tournament will held at Fawn Lake Country Club and begin at 1:00 p.m.

Congregational Picnic

Join us for The Congregational Picnic on Sunday, June 3, following the 11:00 a.m. Worship Service.
The Christian Ed Committee will provide hamburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, condiments,
beverages, plates, cups, eating utensils. We ask members to bring a vegetable, salad, or dessert
(singles and couples – one dish; families of 3 or more – two dishes.)

Prime Timers

Prime Timers’ outing for June will be a performance at Riverside Center to see Anything Goes,
Wednesday, June 13, at 11:30 a.m. The cost per person will be $44.15. This includes dinner, show,
taxes and gratuity. Reservations can be made by calling Jim and Judy Schulken at 899-0130, or the
church office, with checks going to the church and made out to the church.

VBS

VBS 2012 Operation Overboard, June 24-28. PreK 4-year-olds through rising 5th graders may
register ($5 per child, $10 family max due with registration) for VBS in the church office or online

SOKS camp

The 2012 SOKS Camp (Sema Ota Kua Soma) is coming July 16-19. Groups and individuals are
needed to help make lunches in the mornings (10:30 a.m. in church kitchen) and to assist with the
afternoon activities at Heritage Park apartments from 12:45 – 3:30 p.m. High school youth through

Pentecost Offering

The Pentecost Offering is coming, Sunday, May 27. This offering is one of the four PC
(USA) offerings during the year. Forty percent will stay local and the Mission Committee has
designated this year’s portion to go to support the SOKS Camp at Heritage Park. Our church,
along with several other churches, provides a lunch and activities for preschool through 8th
grade children and youth for seven weeks Monday through Thursday. The rest of the offering
will be divided as follows: ten percent for General Assembly child advocacy ministries;
twenty-five percent to ministries with youth; and twenty-five percent for Young Adult Volunteer
opportunities. Please pray and support this offering on Pentecost Sunday, May 27.

Holy Week Schedule – April 2-8

The Labyrinth will be available for walking in the Fellowship Hall during Holy Week, April 2-6. You may walk during the day Monday—Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Evening hours will be Monday—Wednesday, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., Thursday—Friday, 8:00 – 9:00 p.m. There will be Bible readings available. This is a very meaningful way to focus on the events of Holy Week.

Maundy Thursday, April 5 We will celebrate communion in commemoration of the Last Supper during this 7:00 p.m. service in the Sanctuary.

Good Friday, April 6 We will have an extended dramatic reading of The Passion of Christ with anthems and hymns of the cross in this reflective and solemn service at 7:00 p.m., in the Sanctuary.

The Great Vigil of Easter Scripture reminds us that we are to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Rather than praying at our church for the great vigil of Easter this year, you can pray wherever you are : home, work, school, your car, or anywhere that is meaningful. If you would like participate in the 24-hour prayer vigil from the end of the Good Friday service until 8:00 p.m. on Holy Saturday, please sign up for your time of prayer after worship this morning. Go into the world, pray without ceasing, and keep watch for the joy of Easter is almost here.

Community Dinners – Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteers from the church serve a free dinner for the community on the 3^rd Saturday of every month. Contact Karen Johnson, 371-2719, ksjohnson422@msn.com if you would like to help between 2:00-6:00 p.m. or if you would like to donate brownies. The dinner guests love entertainment, so if you would like to sing or play an instrument at the dinner, your talents would be greatly appreciated.
