Thursday Stewardship Updates
While The Presbyterian Church, Fredericksburg, is in the middle of its stewardship campaign, we want to remember and thank the staff and all of those who volunteer their time and considerable talents. These gifts are so important to the ongoing mission of the church, especially as we prepare for the arrival of Rev. Elizabeth Lovell Milford. Your presence in the sanctuary or via live stream for Sunday services, your fellowship during lunches and small groups, your energy in LIFT classes, your music and voices lifted to the glory of God, and your generosity for programs of the church all help support our outreach and mission.
There are so many opportunities to give of your time and talents. There is a continuous need for Sunday morning help—greeting, nursery help or preparing the sanctuary or for communion services. Interested in helping with LIFT or children’s classes or supporting the administrative team? Do you have a green thumb or artistic eye? Would you like to be part of our efforts to reach out to our neighbors or helping with community breakfasts or the cold weather shelter? Maybe you would like to take on a role but are not sure what that would be? That’s fine; God equips us for where we are called and needed. You can email a chair person of a committee directly - see the listing below the introduction of elders. or if you're not sure where to start, you can send a note to office@fredericksburgpc.org, and please include your typical availability and general interests.
There is a place for you!

Q&A with the Stewardship Committee
Why do we have a stewardship campaign in the fall?
A: The finance committee, with input from all other committees, needs to create a budget for 2025. Session approves that, and doing so before the start of 2025 will provide helpful guidance on how the various committees can prioritize their budgets for the year ahead.
Can I pledge now or should I wait until October 20, Pledge Sunday?
A: You may pledge whenever you like, however you like. On Pledge Sunday, we will invite members of the congregation to come forward to drop their pledge card or a special "I pledged" card found in the pews that morning. So even if you pledge now - by mail, through Realm or by dropping your pledge card in the offering plate--we would invite you to participate in coming forward on Pledge Sunday to be a part of the joyful celebration of giving.
What if I cannot pledge this year or pledge more than last year?
A: We encourage you to prayerfully consider what you and your family can contribute. While the focus of the stewardship campaign is understandably on financial contributions, The Presbyterian Church welcomes your gifts of time, talent and treasure to whatever extent you can give them. You are invited to connect with any committee of the church to become more involved or to ask questions. Committees are listed on the webpage under the Session tab below the listing of elders by class. https://fredericksburgpc.org/session
How often is the church budget reviewed?
A: The finance committee meets monthly - and more often if necessary. It shares a financial report for discussion at every meeting of the session. A simplified version of that report is presented in regular newsletters from the church to the congregation. These reports compare actual offerings and special gifts as well as expenses to the projected budget.
It is an explicit duty of session to be a good steward of the finances of the church. The Book of Order, G-3.0205, states that the session shall prepare and adopt a budget and determine the distribution of the congregation’s benevolences. It shall authorize offerings for Christian purposes and shall account for the proceeds of such offerings and their disbursement. It shall provide full information to the congregation concerning its decisions in such matters.
September 26 Update
An update from the staff:
Frank walked into the office.
“What’s that around your neck?” John Copley asked.
Deanna, looking up from her desk, jumped up and exclaimed, “I DON’T DO SNAKES!”
“We’re going to need some new pest traps in the Middle House, John,” said Frank. “I found this guy curled up inside one.”
John Howe sauntered in the room. “Hold on a minute there,” he said. “There’s nothing in the pest control SDA, because of the downpayment we put on
mold removal last month.”
“That came out of the pest control SDA?” asked Deanna.
“Yes. Mold. Pests. Mold is a pest,” replied John Howe.
Suddenly, Jen came rushing down the stairs saying, “Quick I need the AED! Where is it?”
“It’s in the fellowship hall!”
“No, it’s in the lobby!”
“Why do you need it?” “Brittany and I were blowing up balloons to drop on the congregation for Volcano Sunday for Season of Creation, and she passed out!” said Jen.
“Call 911!” said Deanna.
“Wait! I’m good!” said Brittany bursting down the stairs. “I got light headed but now I’m fine. There’s just so many balloons.”
Just then, Larry and Mary Ann walked in.
Mary Ann said, “Hello all, we came in to do some work over in the choir room. Frank, what’s that around your neck?”
A day in the life in the office of The Presbyterian Church may not be as exciting as all of that. But it also is not too far off. You never know what you’ll find, who will be there, what will be broken, what craft will be assembled, what supplies will be ordered, or what problem will be solved. The work of the Stewardship campaign makes it all possible. From the funds to order supplies, hire contractors, and fix copiers, to the funds that allows for organ rebuilds and new music. The staff is grateful. And for the funds that pay salaries, the staff and their families are appreciative for this congregation’s generosity with their tithes, as well as with their time volunteering in and around the office. Thank you for being the congregation we are all called to serve.
September 19 Update
An update from property:
We were fortunate to have Jerry Zekert eloquently speak on Sunday, September 15, about property related issues during the Moment for Stewardship. As part of the process of welcoming a new Pastor, certain Manse improvements needed to be completed.
The following pictures provide examples of some of the improvements and repairs made to our church property made possible by Stewardship funds.
Thank you and God bless you all for your generous support of this year’s campaign so we can maintain and improve our precious property!
